Elda B. Boevers

Elda B. Boevers, 93, of Tripoli, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at the Tripoli Nursing & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made in her name to Cedar Valley Hospice or Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli. 

Elda, daughter of Herman and Marie (Oberheu) Banser, was born June 17, 1921, in rural Bremer County, Iowa, and was baptized on July 3, 1921 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Crane Creek by Rev. Wetengle.  She was confirmed on March 25, 1934 by Rev. Dilges at St. Johns.

Elda was united in marriage to Ewald Boevers on February 17, 1939,  at St Johns by Rev Knoploh. They began farming west of Tripoli. To this union five children were born, Verdine, Joanne, Gene, Dale, and Gary. After many years of farming,  in April of 1978, they moved into Tripoli. On March 30, 1999, Ewald passed away, and Elda remained in their home. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Elda enjoyed crocheting, gardening, her beautiful farm home, and helping with anything that needed to be done. Her entire family along with eleven grandchildren brought her much joy.

Elda is survived by her four children, Verdine Makedonski of Cedar Falls, Gene (Cheryl) Boevers of Denver, Dale (Merijo) Boevers of Farley, and Gary (Evaline) Boevers of Tripoli; her eleven grandchildren, Angela Kroemer, Alan Makedonski, Michelle (Mark) Raley, Lisa, Laurie, and Michael (Kathy) Holm, Cheri (Howard) McDaniel, Dean, and Reid (Mary) Boevers, Denise (Greg Grant) Janssens, and Melissa (Matt) Simon; one sister, Arlene Heidemann of Waterloo; one sister-in-law, Delores Banser of Waverly; along with sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition her parents and husband, Elda was preceded in death by her daughter, Joanne Holm in September of 2006; her son-in-law, George Makedonski in March, 1990; a sister, Erna Wille; brother, Lester Banser; two brothers-in-law, Julius Wille and Milton Heidemann; and a sister-in-law, Maleta (Randy) Schwarze.

Ewald and Elda were neighbors from my childhood. Rode to country school sometimes with the kids. My sympathy to the family.

We have lots of fond memories of visiting in our back yards and also some good card games. Ewald and Ella were wonderful neighbors.
